Description:
Join us for a free art workshop and alphabet hunt in St. Mary’s Cathedral, where historic lettering will be put to use to make your very own 21st century statement.
This workshop is suitable for children aged 5 - 10 years old, and pre-booking is essential as space is limited.
Young people are asked to bring along a short snappy sentence of about 5-6 words (or less than 50 characters).
You will be sent a page before the workshop to help you plan your snappy statement.
During the workshop young people will get to create their sentence using tracings of the historic lettering within St. Mary’s Cathedral, but first you have to find the right letters you need…
We’ll help you find your letters in the different parts of St. Mary’s Cathedral, which are suited to the workshop, and we’ll also help you to finish your statement, ready to bring home.
Who is it for?
This free workshop for young people is suitable for those aged 5-10 years, must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and is part of Open House Limerick 2021 in collaboration with St. Mary’s Cathedral.
What to bring?

After you book your place you will be sent a planning page to print off at home (or draw yourself if you can’t access a printer) which will help you pick the 5-6 words (or less than 50 characters) that you want to use for your very own snappy statement. Just bring your planning page on the day, other materials are provided.
This Open House Limerick workshop will be run by local artists Annette Moloney (Kings Island) and Mary Conroy (Thomondgate).
Please note: all young people must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop
This workshop will take place indoors and in line with all current public safety measures.
Please dress appropriately, including for the potentially cold weather.
With parental permission photographs will be taken on the day.
This project is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland's Engaging with Architecture Scheme.
