Description:
Reflective of the three 'parts' of Limerick city; English Town or King's Island, Irish Town and New Town or Newtown Pery, we welcome audiences to experience King's Island as a story of built heritage in three unique parts.
This area represents the genesis of Limerick city and contains a legacy of architectural built heritage that resonates across the region. Inhabited since 922, the Viking City of Hymrek has 1,000 years of cultural layers interwoven to create a wonderfully rich tableau.
In keeping with OHL Green Festival ethos, we have specially curated a looped walking tour which brings you past over 20 stops featuring works from the 12th to the 20th centuries as selected by local architects and artists for the Open House Limerick 2021 Festival of Architecture.
This event will launch during Open House Limerick Weekend with three 'in person' guided tours. Two on Saturday 30th and one on Sunday 31st October. Subsequent self guided tours can be taken using the online digital map or a printable map which can be downloaded from the website.
