Description:
Civic Visionaries: How visionary architecture addresses environmental, social and economic sustainability and how it can optimise the health and wellbeing of its occupants.
St Michael's National School sits on a discreet urban site, nestled between St Michael's Church and the People's Park. The recently completed extension creates a new, expanded external entrance area that benefits from high level east-light, while internally, new openings permit additional daylight to the enlarged entrance lobby, and additional classroom.
The extension utilises conventional building-techniques that nonetheless maximise the opportunities for high level natural light. In addition the mono-pitch roof profiles compliment the geometry of the neo-gothic buttresses of the adjoining church, and provide generous spaces both inside and out.
